Cambodia Casinos

There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is against the law. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent area, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 1700, and although visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of most borders.

The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau casino, contains 150 one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six table games, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel compound that highlights many conveniences on top of the casino, which contains 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and 88 tables.
