There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia casinos that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is not permitted. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect spot, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; still, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and though visas are apparently required to pass, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.
The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat casino, contains one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga casino is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel compound that contains numerous luxuries aside from the gambling den, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
